Planning a Trip to Timor-Leste

It’s been three weeks since we returned home from Europe and although it’s been great to spend time with friends and family over the holidays, I’m just about ready for another change of scenery. It’s a new year and I’m kicking things off with another journey – this time something completely different. Last year I was offered an opportunity to volunteer with an NGO in Timor-Leste. Timor-Leste (otherwise known as East Timor or Timor Lorosae) is Asia’s youngest nation, having gained independence from Indonesia less than 20 years ago. Deciding whether or not to go to Timor was honestly one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make in my life. In the end, the promise of another adventure won out, and I booked a flight into Dili via Darwin. With only three days left until I fly out, I’m now in the process of organising the finer details of my trip.
